Maile Minute

(We got this idea from friends of ours, Angie and Gabe. They came up with a list of questions that they started asking their son when he turned 3 years old. They ask him the same questions every year and see how the answers change.)

Maile Minute – 21 Months

by Papa K on April 19, 2011

In this Maile Minute, Maile reads us a story – which you can’t really understand for the first half of it because she has her pacifier stuck in her mouth. Speaking of the pacifier, astute followers might have noticed that it has made a big return to Maile’s daily life. Originally, the pacifier was basically a trigger for Maile to go to sleep – around 6 months though she completely rejected it since he knew it meant it was time to go to bed. A couple months ago, she found one lying around and latched on to it again. She wants it constantly now. Our theory is that at least part of it is that she is going through some major teething with her molars. Regardless, the end of this second pacifier phase is coming… Maile just doesn’t know it yet.

Maile Minute – 20 Months

by Papa K on March 20, 2011

In the craziness of March Madness, we never posted our Maile Minute from this month.

One of these months we are going to move away from focusing on Maile eating, but for now its the easiest time to actually get her in one place for 60 seconds. Keep an ear out towards the end for Maile’s newest phrase (courtesy of Mommy): “Oh boy!”

As always, click here for previous Maile Minute entries.

Maile Minute – 19 Months

by Papa K on February 15, 2011

We’re a few days late on our Maile Minute – just too much going on around here.

This month’s episode features Maile and her new favorite food: waffles!

Or as Maile says in the morning as she waddles into the kitchen: “wah-FOO? wah-FOO?”

Maile Minute – 17 Months

by Papa K on December 12, 2010

Last month we started a series of posts where we film Maile for one minute and just see what she does. We created a category so you can see all the previous posts here.

We increased the degree of difficulty this month by taking her out of her high chair for the filming. I also cheated a bit by using the front-facing camera on the iPhone so she could see herself.

All in all, 17 months has been a good milestone for Maile Girl (although to be fair, they are all good milestones). We definitely experienced a bit of a regression sleep-wise over the past couple months, but now she seems to have figured all of that out and is sleeping much better. She is no longer in the crib, probably for good at this point, so there is still a chance she’ll waddle out of her room in the middle of the night to say hello, but for the most part even if she does that she goes right back down.

One fun development is her capacity to enjoy projects – Megan has been great doing all sorts of fun art projects with Maile over the past few weeks. It feels like every day we come home and there is something new to see. Our apartment looks like a Maile and Hannah museum right now.

Speaking of Hannah, its fun to watch Maile interact with Hannah and also other kids. When we went over Harold’s house for Hannukah she followed him all over the place. In the past she would play alongside other kids, but not really interact. Now more and more interactions are taking place – and for the most part, they are hilarious!

Can’t wait to see what happens next!

Maile Minute – 16 Months

by Papa K on November 11, 2010

Maile turned 16 months old today! We thought this would be a good opportunity to introduce a new feature here at Hapa Haole – the Maile Minute. The Maile Minute was inspired by a blog that Christine reads called Pacing the Panic Room. The blog follows the adventures of a little girl named Tessa and her family (with amazing photos to boot because the dad is a photographer). Every month they film Tessa for 2 and a half minutes uninterrupted. We thought it’d be a cool way to see how Maile changes from month-to-month.

Below is our first installment. For now we are filming Maile in her high chair during her dinner. (It’s kind of hard to get her to stay still otherwise!) Admittedly not terribly exciting, but we think it will be fun to watch her progression as time goes by.
