Do or do not… there is no try.

by Papa K on October 29, 2009

This Yoda costume truly is the gift that keeps on giving. I decided to go for a walk after work with Maile girl. When I put her in the bjorn inspiration struck!

Maile’s Trip to Chicago

by Maile Girl on October 27, 2009

Meeting My Great Grandparents!

Meeting My Great Grandparents!

I’m a lucky girl. Mommy and daddy make me feel that way all the time (and Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal and Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike – basically the list goes on and on…)

This weekend I was reminded of that fact once again when I journeyed to Chicago to meet daddy’s side of the family. It was great fun and I was definitely the center of attention. I loved meeting everyone and I was so happy that everyone came in to see me!

I felt especially lucky to meet my great grandparents – from what I’m told not everyone gets to do that. I have 3 great grandparents – Grandpa Mike’s parents and Grandpa Cal’s mom. (I’ll meet Great Grandma Kiyoko when we go to Hawaii for Christmas.)

True story: when I came in the room to meet Great Grandpa Irv, he looked at me and said, “Oh the baby, isn’t she sweet!” I’m told Great Grandpa Irv was always quite the charmer and we instantly became fast friends. I really enjoyed visiting him. (Check out the video below – apparently, the paparazzi heard about our visit and was ready with the cameras…)

After meeting my great grandparents, I went and met my dad’s sister, Aunt Julie and my mom’s side of the family. I got passed around like a hot potato and received lots of love from all comers.

Last, but certainly not least, I also got to spend some quality time with my Auntie Elyssa. It was really nice to see her again, we chatted for awhile and I caught her up on all my fun adventures.

It was a quick trip, but a great start to the Maile World Tour ’09 – next stop Boston for Thanksgiving and then on to Hawaii in December!

Getting A Little Artistic

I thought this was kind of a cool shot.

Apologies, but we’ve been going non-stop since our return, so the full debrief of our Chicago trip is delayed another day. Soon, we promise!

I forget if I already told you this, but I headed to Chicago this weekend to meet my daddy’s side of the family. It was great fun and I can’t wait to tell you all about and share lots of pictures … but right now I’m exhausted! It’s hard being a girl getting all this attention sometimes 😉

So you will have to wait for all the fun details, but for the time being, here is a quick video. I went and met my Great Grandpa Irv at the home he stays at and they had a piano. I asked my daddy to show me how to play it. I’m not sure he got it entirely right (am I really supposed to jump up and down on it with my feet?) – but it was still pretty cool and made fun noises.

More to come …

Time to Mix Things Up?

by Papa K on October 21, 2009

I think Maile is starting to get a little bored with milk – she was fascinated by my salad tonight!

Wonder how hard it would be to get that into my bottle?

Hmm... daddy really seems to be enjoying that green stuff. I need to talk to my chef about mixing things up.

Not the best picture of our girl, but we wanted to capture our adventures (yes plural) taking Maile to see the Blue Angels for the first time. The Blue Angels come to San Francisco every year as part of Fleet Week. We took Maile up a hill near our house to get a good view.

Here come the Blue Angels...

Whoa. That was pretty loud!

Whoa. That was pretty loud!

Truth be told, the first day (Saturday), the show was cancelled pretty quick due to fog. We went back again on Sunday, but didn’t last very long. After the first fly by, we realized that Maile wasn’t quite ready for all the noise. But she got a taste and I’m sure we’ll be back in years to come!

I Get Around

by Maile Girl on October 11, 2009

Now that I’m a little bit older and can hold my head up better, I’ve been enjoying new modes of transportation. Mommy and daddy have been using the sling and baby bjorn a lot more. Both make it much easier to go out for quick walks and to do chores around the house…

I’m a bad daddy. One of my favorite games I used to play with my dad as a kid was the tickle game. He’d hold up his fingers and I’d pick one at a time until I picked the magic tickle finger (supposedly pre-determined by my dad) at which point I would get tickled. For whatever reason I decided tonight to teach Maile this game (despite the fact that she hasn’t shown any indication that she knows what fingers are or decision-making ability that would enable her to “select” a finger).

I think its safe to say this experiment did not go well and we will be waiting a little longer to reintroduce the tickle game to Maile.
