Fun Day at the Park

by Maile Girl on July 5, 2010

Now that I’m a little bit older I’m able to enjoy more of the fun things at the park…

They have really long slides...

But even though the park has lots of fancy rides, Daddy is still my favorite!

Maile’s First Red Sox Game

by Papa K on June 27, 2010

The Red Sox came to town this weekend during interleague play to play the San Francisco Giants. We decided it would be the perfect opportunity to take Maile to her first ballgame.

We took the bus to the game, which we actually realized was her first bus ride. She may have liked the bus ride better than the game. We counted and she made 14 new friends on the bus. Basically, whoever sat down next to us, she’d stare at them until they smiled and then she would just start chatting away telling them stories. As I said when I rode the New York subway with Maile, they should pay people to ride the subways with babies – it just makes everyone happier (assuming they aren’t screaming!)

Good times on the bus ride to the ball game...

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a ton of great pictures from the actual game, but we had a great time. Maile was fantastic. We did have to move around a bit. I think we spent 2.5 – 3 innings in our actual seats, but then we walked around and visited some friends that were also in attendance. AT&T Park is also great for kids – they have a play area in the outfield and also a Build A Bear Workshop – and yes, we were the sucker parents that bought Maile a baseball bear.

Look at these jokers - 30 minutes before game time and they're all smiling away. Game faces, people!

All in all, a great first Red Sox adventure for Maile Girl – including a 4-2 victory for the good guys!

Realized it’s been awhile since we’ve posted a family picture (Maile is just way too interesting on her own I guess…)

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy!

(Dad note: You’re welcome, Maile Girl. I had a wonderful first father’s day with my girls. Mommy let me sleep in late and then I was woken up by actual hugs from Maile (a new trick she’s picked up – she gave me 10 of them, like she knew it was my special day). After a home made breakfast, I had a relaxing massage and then some afternoon time playing with Maile while we let Mommy take a nap. Finally finished it off with a nice dinner with Jake and his folks. Couldn’t ask for a better father’s day!)

Loyal readers of my blog might recall that back in December, daddy tried to take mommy away for the night to celebrate her birthday and I crashed the party. Well, I caught wind that he was up to his old tricks again, made it very clear that I wouldn’t behave if left alone with Grandma and Grandpa … and once again, got the invite to join mommy and daddy at the St. Regis Princeville!

I mean check out this view - can you blame me for crashing?!

This time the weather was much nicer, so we got some quality time in at the pool.

I really was loving the water – I could have played it in all day (perhaps because it was about 90 degrees). I even showed mommy that I was indeed learning from swim class, by remembering how to do “Humpty Dumpty”…

For dinner we headed over to the Hanalei Dolphin – I had my normal food, but mommy and daddy said their fish was excellent. The best part of the restaurant was that I met a really cute waiter. Mommy said that not only was he the cutest waiter at the restaurant, but also the nicest – I’m still not sure that made daddy any happier with my flirting. (Dad note: probably hard to convey this story via the blog, but Maile had this waiter wrapped around her little finger. He smiled at her every time he passed our table and when he came over to say hi, she got all smiley and giggly. Yikes.)

All in all it was another wonderful visit to the north side of Kauai and the St. Regis!

(Dad note: and very relaxing too, minus Maile’s 6 AM wake up call…)

Maile girl is about a month away from her first birthday. Since we won’t be able to celebrate with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal on Maile’s actual birthday, they decided to throw Maile a mini-party here on Hawaii. Consider it a kick off to the festivities complete with presents and Maile’s first taste of ice cream!

All of these? For me?

After the presents it was time for the ice cream. Very early on (before Maile was even born I believe), Grandpa Cal requested that he be the one to first introduce Maile to ice cream. We thought that was a great idea and all agreed that her first birthday would be the right time to start developing her sweet tooth.

Here’s take #1 of Maile trying ice cream for the first time (yes, it took multiple takes…):

Clearly didn’t go as smooth as we were hoping – after a utensil correction, we nailed it on take #2:

Still not wildly in love with the ice cream – although I will say she warmed up to it a bit after we put the camera down. I guess for now we’ll leave it as a TBD whether she develops her Grandpa’s love of ice cream!

Hittin’ the Beach

by Papa K on June 7, 2010

Don't worry, Maile and Daddy have plenty of sunscreen on!

Don't worry, Maile and Daddy have plenty of sunscreen on!

You can’t have a trip to Hawaii without a little beach action, so on Saturday we headed over to Lydgate Beach Park. (Great spot on Kauai if you have kids btw. For one the ocean has built-in kiddie pools with rocks protecting from the surf and across the street is a great playground.)

We were looking forward to having Maile show off everything she’s learned in her swim classes for Grandma and Grandpa – and sure enough, she clinged to Mommy and Daddy like a pro 😉

Mommy, this pool is so much nicer then the one at the JCC, but if its alright with you, I'll stay close to you all the same...

Last time, daddy got the parting artistic shot – this time, its mommy’s turn…

Guess Where I Am?

by Maile Girl on June 6, 2010

WE'RE

WE'RE

IN

IN

HAWAII!!!!!

HAWAII!!!!!

That’s right – I’m back on Kauai visiting Grandma and Grandpa! We arrived on Thursday and we are here for a whole week. Mommy said we are here for a little “r and r” – whatever that is – and we are also here to celebrate my first birthday a little bit early with Grandma and Grandpa.

Daddy told me that the truth is you never really need a good excuse to come visit Grandma and Grandpa (or did he say to come to Hawaii??) Either way I agree with him!
