Allison’s 3rd Birthday

by Papa K on June 12, 2012

Maile’s very first friend, Allison, had her third birthday party this weekend. You might recall that a couple years ago, Allison, Hannah and Maile shared their first birthday party together. (See here and here – if you haven’t seen those pictures in awhile – worth a click, will blow your mind!) Now that the girls are turning 3 we thought they were ready to hold down their own parties…

Jumpy house? Oh no you didn't...

Sadly, this is the only picture we snagged of the birthday girl! Perhaps she was too busy hosting to pose for pictures?

Maile Elmo

by Papa K on October 30, 2011

Hi, I'm Maile Elmo!

Hi, I'm Maile Elmo!

Grandma Gail really outdid herself this year. Keeping with the annual tradition, she made Maile’s halloween costume. This year, Maile actually was able to request her costume – Elmo!

The best part of Grandma Gail's costume was that she was able to deliver it in person! Thank you Grandma Gail!

The costume is amazing and Maile had a lot of fun wearing it (well, truth be told, she had a lot of fun wearing it all weekend and then strangely pitched a fit when her friends came over to trick or treat with her). Maile invited a few friends over and we did some trick or treating practice around the courtyard (baby steps before heading out into the big, bad city!)

I'm Maile Elmo. Cool. I'm Hannah Sailor. Cool.

Firemen, sailor, golfer, leopard, Elmo, oh my!

After trick or treating, we didn’t think the kids had enough sweets, so we headed inside and Mommy helped everyone decorate Halloween cookies!

All in all it was a fun start to Halloween! Happy trick or treating!

Hannah’s New Digs

by Maile Girl on September 26, 2011

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Hannah. Last week I said to Mommy – “Hannah?” and Mommy took that to mean that she should call Hannah’s mommy and make plans for us to get together. My mommy is smart like that. So on Sunday morning, we packed up and headed to Hannah’s house – it was a little farther than I remembered (and much bigger!) … but it was the same old Hannah!

(Dad note: Regular readers might recall that Hannah and her family moved out of the city a couple weeks ago. They live about 40 minutes away now.)

I didn't remember this part of Hannah's place, but she has this great deck out back of her house and TWO awesome bikes - it was like she was knew I was coming!

Great times with Hannah – I can’t wait to see her again soon!

Bittersweet Labor Day

by Papa K on September 6, 2011

We had a mini Labor Day party at our place on Monday. It was a little bittersweet as it was Hannah’s last weekend living in San Francisco. The good news is that she isn’t moving too far away – just down the Peninsula a bit, but we’ll miss having her (and her parents) right up the street!

Nothing says Labor Day like a hot dog from the grill!

Two Peas in a Swing

by Papa K on September 1, 2011

The video below is actually from the weekend before last – I just forgot to post it. Maile is definitely missing Hannah – the last couple of nights she’s asked about her. Luckily, we have Maile Girl covered as we made plans to see Hannah and her parents this weekend. Can’t wait to see these two sisters from another mother together again!

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Thank you, Megan!

by Papa K on August 4, 2011

Megan and Maile, November 2009 - the beginning of a wonderful friendship!

Megan and Maile, November 2009 - the beginning of a wonderful friendship!

Tomorrow is Megan’s last day as Maile’s full-time nanny. Maile will start preschool on Monday. There will be plenty of time to talk about preschool in the weeks and months ahead, but Christine and I wanted to take a moment to thank Megan for taking such wonderful care of our daughter for the past year and a half.

It’s a hard thing as a new parent trying to find someone to care for your baby girl. After all, you are just in the process of figuring things out for yourself. You rely a bit on your gut, you listen to the recommendations of friends and, ultimately, you see what happens. We couldn’t have been happier with what Megan brought to our family.

She’s been a friend to Maile. A teacher. And, yes, a parent when Christine and I couldn’t be there. (And trust me, that last one is hard for any parent to put out there.)

Coming home is always the best part of our day because we never know what awaits us. Early on it was a new sign that Megan had taught Maile. Later it was art projects all over our walls, some cookies or muffins they had baked in the kitchen, or a new song and dance they had learned.

Every season and holiday our apartment was decorated with art projects Megan did with the girls...

Maile knows every story time in a mile radius of our home, our book shelves are filled to brim with whatever she found on the most recent trip to the library and when I walk into the Peekadoodle kids club down the road, I feel like I’m with a little mini celebrity. This is all thanks to Megan.

Megan was even there for Maile's first Red Sox game!

The best part recently is that Maile is starting to talk and string words together, so when we come home, we get the stories from the day. All the fun times she had with Megan and Hannah.

Three peas in a pod!

This most certainly isn’t a good bye, but at the start of a new phase of Maile’s life, a reflection on the good times we’ve had and a heart felt thank you for the role Megan has played in shaping the amazing little girl our daughter is growing into.

Love, Love Megan!

When we came home from work the other day, Maile and Hannah treated us to a showing of the bunny song and related dance.

In case you have trouble following, the bunnies go to sleep and then they wake up and hop. Hard to believe something so simple could be so cute!

The Bubble Lady

by Maile Girl on July 31, 2011

Maile Girl here. Recovering from another fun-filled weekend in San Francisco. The weekend actually got off to an early start on Friday afternoon. Word trickled down to Hannah and I that the Bubble Lady was making an encore performance down at the library. Megan agreed to take us over … and Mommy even surprised us by leaving work a little early so she could come too! How fun is that?

Megan, Hannah and I were VERY excited for the bubble lady!

Bubble Pipe

by Papa K on July 27, 2011

All I can think of with this video is that this bubble pipe is the new version of that cigarette gum they used to sell when we were kids (I assume they don’t sell that anymore, right?) It’s a gateway toy!
