(Having trouble with the blog from the hotel wifi, so posting this from my phone – hopefully it formats okay.)

This weekend we are headed to Michigan for a family reunion (Grandma Jill’s side of the family), but before we head there, we stopped in Chicago to visit GG Bea and GG Irv.

Maile (5) and Lauren (1.5) with their great grandparents!

Both girls were fantastic. Maile had a lot of fun teaching GG Bea Mancala and Lauren was definitely the apple of GG Irv’s eye – he kept watch on her as she scooted and ran all over the place.

GG Bea was a quick study and soon was giving Maile a run for her money on Mancala

Meanwhile Lauren and GG Irv tried a Lauren version of Uno - which mainly involved GG Irv holding as many cards as Lauren could place on his leg

Last week we headed to Chicago to visit with GG Bea and GG Irv for the July 4th holiday. Grandma and Papa Boston came in as well. It was Lauren’s first chance to meet GG Bea and GG Irv and Maile’s first visit since last September. I am always so thankful when I get to visit GG Bea and GG Irv with the girls – and this visit did not disappoint. Lauren charmed with her smiles and giggles and Maile wowed everyone with how much she has grown up this past year.

On Wednesday night when we arrived we went to dinner with GG Bea - that smile was permanent on her face the whole time she was with Maile and Lauren!

More to come on this trip – we also got to spend some quality time with Aunt Julie, Cousin Donna, Uncle Jimmy and the Vick family cousins…

Happy 92nd to Great Grandpa Irv!

by Papa K on November 13, 2011

Maile’s Great Grandpa Irv turns 92 on Monday! We headed to Chicago this weekend to wish him a happy birthday in person. Papa Mike and Grandma Jill also came in from Boston to meet us. We had a wonderful weekend spending time with the family and especially spending time with “GG Irv” who has 90 years(!) on Maile Girl.

I think it’s safe to say that Great Grandpa Irv’s 92nd birthday is the first time he’s had “Happy Birthday” sung to him in Mandarin Chinese! And I’m sure he got a kick out of the fact that it was his great grand daughter who carried the tune…

During our trip to Chicago, Daddy kept saying things like “bogus” and saying we were just like Bill and Ted. I had no idea what he was talking about – so just like any other 14 month old, I jumped on Google and quickly figured out he was referencing a movie from the late 80’s called “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure“…

I agree with my dad that the reference basically works, except that instead of going on an adventure to “olden times”, we were going to see some “old timers” – (don’t blame me for that one, Daddy made me put it in…). Although it was a quick trip, we saw Great Grandma Bea, Great Grandpa Irv, Aunt Julie, Cousin Donna, Uncle Jimmy AND Grandma Jill and Grandpa Mike even came in from Boston to meet us!

I had a lot of fun seeing everyone and showing them all my new tricks (mostly walking and standing up all by myself). They mostly just wanted to give me kisses – its a good thing I like kisses, because I got A LOT of them!

Here are some other shots we took along the way…

Can’t wait to see everyone again really soon!
