Just going to toss this out there Mommy, this doesn't seem like such a great idea...
Maile Girl here. I learned something new about my mommy and daddy this weekend in Vermont – they can fly! Kind of like an airplane. Crazy, right? All I know is that my mommy put on a helmet, walked up a ladder and then away she went! See for yourself…
Dad note: I like the look on her face at the end – kind of says “wait, she’s coming back, right?”

This weekend we flew cross country and then drove up to Vermont (about 4 hours from Boston) for a good friend’s wedding. Maile Girl braved the trip (she was a total trooper with all the travel!) and Auntie Elyssa joined us as well to get some quality time in with Maile and help out while we were attending all the wedding festivities.
Maile had a great time with Auntie Elyssa. Auntie definitely kept her busy with lots of art projects and activities. My favorite was when they went exploring outside and Christine and I caught Auntie giving Maile her first ballet lesson. The video below is from the tail end of it – once she saw us, we kind of ruined it, but she was practicing all the moves and copying everything Auntie did for a good 5 minutes. One of those memories we won’t soon forget…

(This might turn into a running segment as I had a blast doing it with Maile…)
A few days ago, Maile discovered this 21 Questions style set of cards that we have. It’s one of those ice breaker type games that consists of a set of index cards each containing an insightful question. They are perfectly Maile sized, so she loves carrying them around and hiding them all over our apartment. I found a stash on the chair in our living room and decided to ask Maile the questions…

My daddy has moves like Jagger and I plan on learning every single one!
(Dad note: Maile is in the “I’m-going-to-copy-everything-you-do” phase and I plan on taking full advantage – we had a blast dancing around the house this weekend!)

College Football started this weekend and we headed down to Stanford to root on the Cardinal in their first game of the year. Maile hung out at Wills’ house for most of the game (while Mommy and Daddy enjoyed the tailgate) – but we brought her over towards the end. Stanford does this really cool thing where they let “kids” rush the field about 10 minutes after the game ends. We decided to hang around and check it out.
It was pretty crazy, but Maile grasped the game plan right away: Stanford put up the “W” so she went to celebrate! She loved it and, incredibly, didn’t get taken out by one of the older kids…
(Dad note: It is funny to me that when I was in college, they spent a lot of time trying to keep us from rushing the field after Stanford victories and yet they invite youngers kids to do it. No wonder college students rush the field, like Maile, they’ve been doing it since they were 2!)

The video below is actually from the weekend before last – I just forgot to post it. Maile is definitely missing Hannah – the last couple of nights she’s asked about her. Luckily, we have Maile Girl covered as we made plans to see Hannah and her parents this weekend. Can’t wait to see these two sisters from another mother together again!
Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Sunday morning Maile and Mommy did a little construction project and built an addition to our apartment especially for Maile Girl. Her very own “not a box” house!
(Dad note: big props to Mommy on this one – Maile absolutely loves her house, she’s been playing in it non-stop since it was built!)

We figure if she’s going to be bossy, we might as well try to have her be polite while she’s doing it…

It’s been awhile since we checked in on Maile and her iPad “skills”. We’ve had this memory game for awhile now, but Maile was never able to figure it out. She’d just press the same squares over and over again getting a kick out of the animal noises. Something finally clicked with Mommy over the weekend and she realized that she could “match” the different animals. The video is a little long, but pretty cool (I definitely got a kick out of this one!)…

One of the benefits of Maile’s new schedule is that Chris gets some extra time with Maile Girl on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On those days, Chris picks Maile up at school at 3:30 – about an hour and a half earlier than when she used to get home to see her. That gives the girls some extra time before the rush of dinner, bath, bedtime kicks in. Mommy and Maile art projects have been all the rage and I’ve definitely been a beneficiary!
