Grandma Gail and Maile made Easter cards today using a potato(?!). They came out beautifully – here’s one she made for Christine and I.

Now I know where Christine gets her creative genes from! Thanks Grandma Gail!

One of our new favorite weekend activities is to go explore the neighborhood by having Maile call all the shots. We just head out and see where she takes us.
On Sunday, we actually ended up at Lombard Street – arguably the crookedest street in the world. Given all the tourists it had actually been awhile since Christine and I had been down it either.
BTW – Maile is also 100% responsible for her outfit in this video…

Apologize for the delay posting this. I know many of you rely on Maile’s bracket to enter into your own pools (especially after her 3rd place finish with her inaugural bracket two years ago.
Maile's 2012 March Madness Bracket
One wrinkle this year was that I quickly realized that whatever team I said second was the team that Maile decided she wanted to pick. So if I said “Duke vs Lehigh” – she’d want “Lehigh” – and if I said “Lehigh vs. Duke” she’d want “Duke”. Given the way the bracket is laid out, needless to say she ended up with a lot of upsets!
Here’s how the picking went this year…
All in all, Maile had a rough first day – getting only 6 of 16 games right (but she called the VCU and Colorado upsets!). Her Final Four is still in tact – with Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State and UNC. She has Kentucky beating UNC in the final (she really likes teams that end in the “ee” sound.)

It’s been a long week for Daddy – he’s been really busy working on March Madness stuff.
Mommy and I have been taking good care of him though. In the video below, I’m helping him relax by reading him a story…

Maile has been really into reading about animals lately, so on Saturday Mommy decided to take her to the zoo to see them in the flesh!
Where should we go first? (Maile LOVES maps ... again, thanks to Dora.)
Peacocks! So pretty!
So much fun riding the hippo...
Such a cute smile on our 2.5 year old!
Yes, Maile, rhinos really are that big!
And then they saw this lovely monkey…

Mommy and Daddy are always taking pictures of me with their cameras. A little while back, Daddy gave me one of his old cameras. I’ve been figuring out how to use and I’m finally starting to get the hang of it!
These are all pictures I took on Saturday. Daddy was at work, so I wanted to make sure he didn’t miss anything!
Mommy on the stoop taking a picture of me taking her picture!
This is the sky. So blue.
This is our courtyard - I think the trees are really pretty.
I call this one 'Bubbles on the stair'
Our big palm tree - Daddy said this one is his favorite.
Self portrait
(Dad note: It’s been a lot of fun watching Maile figure out the camera. She’s using an old Canon PowerShot point and shoot. We gave her some basic pointers a while back, but she’s mostly been figuring it out for herself. This is the first time the pictures were “publishable” – we’ll see if she keeps it up!)

Christine was in New York all week for work. Maile and I did pretty well, but she definitely missed her Mommy. We weren’t sure if Chris was going to get back before Maile had to go to sleep, so I told her Mommy wouldn’t be home until the morning. Luckily, Chris did make it home in time!
(Dad note: The beginning of the video cracks me up. We were watching Little Einsteins and Maile can’t decide if she can pull herself away until I pause the show. Don’t take it personally, Mommy, Maile gets REALLY focused on her television!)

Maile Girl here. For the past 2.5 years and almost 800 blog posts, I’ve been the “star”. I think I’m ready for something more and have decided to take my turn behind the camera…
I apologize that I’m a little shaky holding the camera – I will work on that – but I hope you agree that I really brought out a great performance from Mommy with my directions!
(Dad note: no trickery here, she picked up the iPhone, opened the camera app, turned it on, recorded, and then, most interesting to me, figured out how to turn it off. Perhaps slightly less impressive because she’s seen Mommy and Daddy do it about a million times already!)

It may not look like much, but this video actually represents a big step for Maile Girl. Maile hasn’t been the most … open … to touching new, strange things. But at the California Academy of Sciences this weekend, she was all excited to check out the Sea Stars* and she actually touched them!
Proof:
(*Dad note: My lovely wife informed me that they no longer call them Starfish – they are now Sea Stars. Why? Because they aren’t fish! You learn something new every day.)
