What a difference a year makes. Just about a year ago, we first started playing hide & seek with Maile in the courtyard.

She wasn’t very good at it.

One year later – she’s MUCH better. In fact, so good, that sometimes it’s hard to get her out of her hiding spots…

Building Castles

by Papa K on May 16, 2012

Maile is getting pretty good with the Magna Tiles…

(Dad note: This was all Maile – 100%. If you couldn’t hear the audio (sorry that it cut out a bit) – she was building a home for her legos. She built up the castle and then she would open different parts of it to put in her legos. And once in there, apparently her legos “eat”, “sleep” “go to the potty”, etc. Clearly.)

Biking to Off the Grid

by Papa K on May 15, 2012

Last Friday night, we decided to head down to Fort Mason for Off the Grid. I have to admit that when Christine told me that Maile was going to be riding her bike there, I had visions of me carrying the bike and Maile about 3 blocks in.

I am happy to report that I was wrong. With Mommy as the guide, Maile made it all the way to Fort Mason AND rode all the way back home after dinner. I was quite impressed (especially considering we don’t have a great bike riding history thus far.)

Maile Gets Air

by Papa K on May 8, 2012

Maile has started an after school gymnastics program – last night she decided she was going to show off some of her “jumping” skills after dinner.

(Dad note: the swimsuit bottoms over the pajamas is a Maile original – I think it has staying power…)

Maile Draws a Tiger

by Papa K on May 2, 2012

Tonight Maile told me that she wanted to draw a tiger for my bed. So we got out the markers and Maile Girl set to work. I particularly like the work she did with the Tiger stripes!

Mmm Mmm Good

by Papa K on April 26, 2012

This video is pretty cute, but not exactly what we were aiming for. Christine makes most of the dinners in our household and I always thank her for dinner when we sit down. Maile does this now too – she thanks whoever made her dinner. Christine and I are quite pleased with her good manners.

Of course, we fail in trying to capture this (although the “mmm mmm good” part is pretty funny). The “poop” talk at the end is Maile’s new favorite word – she must have learned at school that “poop” was a funny word and she says it ALL THE TIME. Yay, school.

Potty Training Update

by Papa K on April 24, 2012

This video pretty much sums up how potty training is going these days…

In all seriousness, we’re definitely in the frustrating stage of the raining. Maile is fully capable of going on the potty and often does it, but not all the time. Still lots of accidents and she doesn’t seem to like it very much. The “treats” we used for awhile have worn off for the most part. She seems to have regressed a bit at school too.

Mommy (especially) and Daddy are in the process of retrenching. New goal is to have this buttoned up by her birthday. Stay tuned!

Just couldn’t wait…

by Papa K on April 19, 2012

Maile and Mommy went to the library and Maile Girl just couldn’t wait to get home to get started on her new book!

We had an action-packed holiday weekend. Many props to Mommy for lining up a series of Passover-themed and Easter-themed events for Maile Girl.

First up, Maile and Mommy made charoset this afternoon. I wish I could tell you how it tasted, but Maile ate all of it soon after mixing the ingredients together.

Maile asked Mommy for the recipe so she could make sure she had all the ingredients...

Cooking is very serious business - you need to make sure you get all the ingredients just right!

Forgot this one from last week when Grandma Gail and Papa Cal were here. One of our favorite meals is when Grandma and Papa collaborate on lamb: Grandma makes the marinade and Papa takes care of the grilling.

The only person who loves the lamb more than Daddy is Maile Girl – but those who know me well, know that I did NOT teach Maile to eat her lamb like this!
