Maile had her first Ukulele lesson on Monday. She loved it and has been practicing a lot at home. Which means Lauren has been “practicing” a lot at home.
Too much. I’m thoroughly enjoying this phase – they play like this forever, right?

Over the past month we’ve really seen Maile and Lauren start playing together as friends more and more. It’s awesome to watch. Lauren will follow her sister to the end of the earth (and mimic her moves every step of the way). For her part, Maile has been great with her little sister and really is starting to enjoy involving her in games and all types of playing pretend.
And, of course, sisters dance!

For the family reunion we picked up this awesome bubble wand that makes huge bubbles. The girls love it, so on Saturday we headed out with Grandma and Papa to have some bubble fun.
We also used it to play around with Instagram’s new Hyperlapse video app – makes some pretty cool videos (although I really should take the extra step and set it to some music – next time!)

2 years ago tomorrow (August 29th) we told Maile that she was going to be a big sister.
Hard to believe we’ve gone from this…
To this…

No doubt you’ve heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by now. It’s been incredible to watch it spread – one of the most viral things I’ve ever seen hit Facebook.
Christine was tagged by one of her good friends yesterday, so this evening, we gathered the family to participate and help spread the word even further. (And yes, we also donated some money to the cause.)
Maile had so much fun, that she wanted to do her own special version after – and had a special call out for her Auntie Elyssa!
When we came back upstairs, check out the picture Maile drew…
Love. The whole thing was a great bonding experience as a family – we hope it does a lot of good for those in need!

Hard to believe, but the summer is rapidly coming to a close. Maile spent her last week of camp back at Presidio Knolls. Maile had a lot of fun back at her old stomping grounds and it definitely helped get her excited for Kindergarten as well.
For the summer camp, each afternoon the kids participated in an activity for the whole week. Maile did Kung Fu Fan Dancing. On Friday afternoon, they put on a show for the parents. Christine went and got a great video of Maile doing her thing. Fair warning, it’s a bit longer than normal – but the end is worth it when Maile does her solo intro 🙂

Lauren got wind that Maile is going to start taking Ukulele lessons in the fall and decided she needed to get a head start …

There’s a new hotness in town and it’s name is Mancala. It’s a simple board game where you move colored stones around a board and try to capture as many as you can. Maile learned to play it this summer at Steve & Kate’s camp and she is absolutely addicted. She plays it non-stop – 5-10+ rounds a day right now – Mommy and Daddy both play (and she typically whomps us), but she is also plays by herself, solitaire-style.
She’s very, very fast at it – and I kind of feel like she sometimes cheats, but I’m not sure, because she moves too quickly. (And to be honest, since in order to cheat, you kind of need to use math, I guess that’s not so bad.)

Lauren’s favorite book these days is “The Pout Pout Fish” – she even has her own pout pout face. Needless to say, with that face, we have no problem reading this book to her over and over!
