Go, Lauren, Go!

by Papa K on August 21, 2013

Lauren is getting closer and closer every day to crawling. And Maile is her biggest cheerleader 🙂

The sad thing is, she has better push up form than her Daddy...

Her move these days is to go into a full plank – whole body off the ground. The part she hasn’t figured out yet is how to make things move forward. Only a matter of time…

Mommy and Daddy went away this weekend and left Lauren and I home. Don’t worry Grandma Gail and Papa Cal came to stay with us! On Friday, I told Papa that we needed to send Mommy and Daddy pictures throughout the weekend so that they knew we were doing okay. And that’s exactly what he did!

On Friday night we went to Off the Grid and it was Onigri time for me!

Lauren hasn't discovered the joys of onigri yet, she is content with just her strap.

At the park, I showed Papa how to feed Lauren. (Dad note: Mommy and I really liked how Maile opened her mouth to show Lauren how it's done.)

Maile Girl on Camera

by Papa K on August 8, 2013

Maile and I flew back from Boston on Tuesday. She came with me to work for about an hour before Mommy was ready to take her home. It was an exciting day at Pocket HQ as we had a film crew in house filming some things. They had setup one of our rooms with all these cameras, a green screen, etc. Maile got to check everything out from the make-up girl to the cameras. The crew was awesome – even showed her what she looked like on camera. I think she got a kick out of it – although for as talkative as she is normally, she wasn’t very forthcoming when interviewed on camera 😉

Daddy, is your work like this every day?

May the Popsicle Be With You

by Papa K on August 5, 2013

As everybody knows, Papa Boston is a BIG time Star Wars fan. So, no surprise, that when he stumbled upon make your own Lightsaber popsicles, he picked up a kit (and they light up green for Luke and red for Darth Vader!) Grandma and Maile made them the day we arrived in Boston and Maile loved eating and playing with them all weekend long. She has no idea really what Star Wars is yet, but slowly, but surely she is being indoctrinated!

Good form, Padawan!

And, yes, they taste good too!

Heart Glasses

by Papa K on July 31, 2013

Earlier this week Maile found an old pair of cheap sunglasses that had the “glass” part broken out and she started wearing the frames. She claims they help her see better – but only inside – when she goes outside, she needs to switch to her sunglasses.

What’s unclear to me is whether she know show ridiculously cute they make her look – although I have a feeling she’s catching on. Regardless, I’ll take it. And assuming she ends up having eye sight like her daddy instead of her mommy, I’ll be pulling up this post one day to remind her that there was a time where she liked having glasses to help her see better. (NOTE: I realize that includes a huge assumption that they still actually have glasses when that conversation comes up…)

If she didn't know how cute they were before she wore them to the airport, now she definitely does, because about 20 people commented on them to her...

I found this picture on my phone - apparently, Maile was checking out her look using the camera... Yikes.

Bye Daddy, Ride Safe!

Bye Daddy, Ride Safe!

Tomorrow morning, Maile Girl and I are headed to Boston. We’re leaving Mommy and Lauren here in San Francisco. We’re going to visit Grandma Jill and Papa Mike and I’m going to go this weekend to ride in my 3rd Pan Mass Challenge.

We’re very excited about the trip … but that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to miss Mommy and Lauren! It seems like every day Lauren is up to something new right now, so can’t even imagine what we’ll come back to 🙂

A long time ago (when she was only 8 months old!), we started swim classes with Maile at the JCC. They were Mommy/Daddy and me-type classes where we were in the water with her. While the first couple of times went okay, it became clear very quickly that Maile wasn’t a big fan. We did it for a few months and then bailed on it.

Since then Maile has had some exposure to the water here in San Francisco and on our trips to Hawaii (and Boston and Chicago too). In fact, our last visits to Hawaii and Chicago made us realize that she might be ready again for swim lessons – she just loved being in the water.

We heard from one of Maile’s classmates about this great swimming program called La Petite Baleen. The classes are limited to 4 children only who are in the pool alone the teacher and the family raved about how great the teachers are with the kids. We decided to check it out last weekend and we were not disappointed. Part of it might be because Maile was the right age to get back into swim lessons, but she had a blast and I was really impressed with the whole setup of the program. We signed up for weekly classes and I have a feeling Maile is going to be quite the fish by the time we get back to Hawaii in December!

They use lots of floaties and toys to get the kids comfortable in the water - but they also teach them tricks like making a 'balloon face' so they don't swallow water when they put their face in.

Apples? Not A Fan.

by Lil' Lauren on July 22, 2013

Yuck. Apples are so gross.

Yuck. Apples are so gross.

No really.

(Dad note: We’ve been slowly introducing Lauren to new foods. A new one every 3 days or so. So we’ve learned that she really likes veggies – carrots and peas – and is not a fan of fruit. At all.)
