Halloween 2013: The Unicorns Amongst Us

As we know, every year Grandma Gail makes Maile (and now Lauren) their Halloween costumes. (See 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009 – no really, go look, you won’t be disappointed!) A couple months ago, we asked Maile what she wanted to be for Halloween and without hesitation she said “A unicorn. A rainbow unicorn.”

I think it’s safe to say that, once again, Grandma Gail delivered!

Meet the two cutest unicorns this side of San Francisco...

One more time because it's that good. Grandma Gail you outdid yourself this year!

Whew. That's better...

Maile Girl got to wear her costume to school - shockingly, she made it through the whole day with the costume in tact!

This year was also a first as we voyaged out beyond the gates of our courtyard to take in the San Francisco trick or treating scene. It was pretty crazy out there, but we had a blast and Maile has a full bag of candy for our troubles (perhaps a bit less by when she wakes up tomorrow morning 😉

After school we met up with Jake and Sophie for some dinner and trick or treating...

Mommy and Lauren took it all in from afar...

... while Maile and Daddy headed out with the hordes to go get some candy!

Maile was very particular about the candy she chose - she learned quickly which ones looked like ones she'd like (colorful) and which were chocolate (brown, yellow, etc.)

This is exhausting...

Pumpkin Carving 2013

Sunday was pumpkin carving day and we had a blast!

Alright, let's get this going - Daddy kicked off the scooping of the gunk part of the pumpkin carving.

And by slimy, I mean AWESOME!

Mommy got involved to add an M for Maile and L for Lauren to the back of the pumpkins

Cutie on the Move

(Sorry for the lack of post last night – right when I sat down to write it, the power went out. Which I took as a sign to go to bed early!)

Mommy took some great pictures of Lauren crawling all around over the weekend…

Lauren and her two teeth are quite the crawlers these days...

She'll follow her mommy and sister (especially) all over the apartment!

Every morning I wake up and get to play with my big sister, Maile, and then after a little while she leaves to go to school. So this morning I said “dadadadadadadada” and Maile translated for Daddy that I wanted to go to school with her and so Daddy said sure! So we all piled into the car and drove over to Maile’s school. Once we walked into her classroom, Maile went and washed her hands and then she signed in – she signed her name in English and Chinese! So cool! I helped her out a bit…

Hmm ... that looks interesting. What are you writing?

My sister? The coolest.

My turn?

Can I stay? You could just carry me all day - I bet no one will even know!

Super Slide with Mommy

Maile Girl hasn’t always been the bravest little girl – especially when it comes to heights. So it wasn’t a huge shock to us when she balked at going down the Super Slide at the Topsfield Fair. Mommy really wanted to go down it though and she somehow convinced Maile Girl to join her – and, of course, Maile loved it and wanted to go again immediately after getting to the bottom. Moral of the story (like all others) – listen to your mother!

Yeah, Maile isn't enjoying this at all 🙂

Auntie Gets Married, Part 2: Pretty Dressies, Dancing, Oh My!

After spending the day with Mommy, Auntie and the rest of the girls getting all ready and pretty, the time came for the actual wedding. Lauren joined Maile, Chris and I at the wedding ceremony and then hung out for the cocktail hour before heading home to get some baby sleep. Maile Girl stayed for the whole reception and danced for pretty much the whole night. We had been having some dance parties at home in preparation and I think I created a dancing monster. So much fun dancing the night away with Maile Girl!

Auntie Gets Married, Part 1: Hair and Makeup

(My daddy apologizes for the lack of posts last week – we were a little busy in Boston celebrating with Auntie Elyssa and Uncle Stephen!)

As you probably already know, my Auntie got married last weekend in Boston. She invited me and Mommy to get ready for her. And let me tell you, getting ready for a wedding is WAY more than just taking a bath and brushing your teeth. We went to this special room in the hotel and me, Auntie, Grandma, Mommy, “her” (Dad note: inside joke) and Uncle Stephen’s cousin got our hair AND makeup done by these two ladies whose job it is to do hair and makeup (how cool is that job?!)
