Usually, when it comes to nap time, Hannah goes and stays in mommy and daddy’s room (she has her own pack-n-play in there). Yesterday, I invited her to my crib to show her my new standing technique. She caught on really quick and we had some good times … until we realized we had no idea how to sit down!
I overheard Grandma Jill ask Daddy how my Music Together classes were going so I thought I’d chime in with the latest. I attended my third class today and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it – I even cracked a few smiles during the songs. I’m starting to enjoy playing the instruments and I think I almost have the opening to Sweet Child O’ Mine nailed – just a few more classes and I’ll be there.
I like playing on the drums, but my instrument of choice is definitely the rattle. I know what you are saying, “Baby shaking a rattle – how cliché!” – but I can’t help where my talents lead me, I just need to go with the flow…
(Dad note: I apologize for the random yelps of joy coming from behind the camera during this video – Maile’s rattle playing just really got me going…)
The weather was out of control gorgeous this weekend, so we went and had our first picnic of the year with a bunch of our friends. It wasn’t just the first picnic of the year, it also was technically my first picnic … ever! My friends Hannah, Sophie and Jake joined us. It was a baby party (for the first of many more times I’m sure, our parents were our chaperones…)
Here I am discovering a single blade of grass - absolutely fascinating!
Hannah just got back from Mexico so we had lots to catch up on - unfortunately, she picked up some Spanish while she was away and I couldn't really understand her...
Help! I've caught a frisbee, but I don't know how to "un-catch" it!
Daddy says he loves this shot of his two pretty girls - as Hannah would now say, "gracias papa!"
My friend Wills met us at the Stanford football game. I always have fun seeing Wills, but he does play a little rough…
My friend, Wills, gets a little excited around me - I keep trying to tell him that he needs to play it cool to attract my interest, but I don't think he gets it yet. Ah, boys.
Easy tiger, that's my eye...
Okay, we're playing it rough? Take that tough guy!
Yesterday morning, I'm minding my own business, having a little breakfast ...
... reading a magazine ...
... when all of a sudden I spy a giant sleeping on my play mat!
SNORE! SNORE! He was making so much noise! So I tried to wake him ...
... and he snatched me right up and made a get away!
I thought I was a goner for sure.
But then just when I thought all hope was lost (hence my lack of smile in the picture above) Grandma Jill swooped in from Boston (via Texas) and saved me from the hooded, loud snoring man!
She put me on the swing and we flew high into the sky and then just when I thought we had escaped ...
... the hooded, loud snoring man returned and removed his hood and said "Maile, I am your grandfather" - and it was true!
We all returned home and had a good laugh over our adventures! The end.
Maile Girl here. Today I turned 9 months old. Mommy and Daddy said they had a surprise for me – we were going to start a new activity on Sunday mornings. The activity turned out to be Music Together – basically it was a big room full of other little kids around my age and all the way up to almost 2 years old (which is really old). They had all these instruments and there was a lady who played the guitar and led all the songs.
Sounds fun, right? I think it will be – but I gotta be honest – adults are strange sometimes. Mommy and daddy went along with the songs and dancing – so I guess its cool (assuming, of course, that my mommy and daddy are cool – and well, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for now). As the video below shows, I’m just not 100% on board with everything. I’m still trying to process it. In the meantime, I’m keeping my Maile Stoic Face in full effect – once I loosen up, maybe I’ll give them a smile…
We didn't really get you anything, but we promise to try to coordinate our naps today...
Sunday was Megan’s birthday so with mommy’s help, Hannah and I threw her a little party yesterday. Mommy made the cookies and Hannah and I were the cute babies in party hats!
I tried to explain to Hannah that you only get to cry when its YOUR party (and even then only if you want to), but she didn't really get it...
I'm no bandwagon girl - I had the Blue Devils going all the way from the beginning!
When I woke up this morning Mommy told me some great news – while I was sleeping Duke beat Butler to win the Men’s Basketball National Championship! I told Mommy to pull out my Blue Devils onesie and pop my milk bottle because it was time to celebrate!
I also asked Mommy to pat my back (my arms are too short and I can’t reach): you might recall, that I had the Blue Devils winning in the bracket I filled out. In fact, Daddy told me that I came in 3rd place out of 80 people in the March Madness pool that he entered my bracket in. He assured me that’s quite good. In fact, he whispered in my ear and told me that he has never done that well in a March Madness pool(!)
(Dad note: for those counting at home, Maile has now won the Super Bowl prop bet pool she entered and placed 3rd in a March Madness bracket pool in her short life. Do they let 9 month olds into casinos?)
