Airport security is getting a little ridiculous - can you believe they made us check to see if Maile was an okay size for carry on?

Airport security is getting a little ridiculous - can you believe they made us check to see if Maile was an okay size for carry on?

Whew.

Whew.

Now that Maile is a bit older, flying is much more … interesting. When she was younger, things were pretty easy. She just loved the fact that she got to spend a few hours on mommy and daddy’s lap. Now, that’s often the last place she wants to be.

Luckily, Mommy made sure we had a bag of goodies to keep us occupied. Unfortunately, we slightly underestimated Maile’s attention span. I’m pretty sure we powered through the “bag of goodies” in the first 45 minutes of the flight. Pretty much every 5 minutes we were on to a new activity … except for when we played “let’s try to unscrew the cap on daddy’s water bottle and then screw it back on” – we played that for about 20 minutes.

The iPad was a life saver. Between Yo Gabba Gabba or just watching slideshows of herself (vain much?) – the iPad is quickly becoming a favorite Maile travel device. (Dad note: the only problem is that Maile loves pressing the only button on the device and whenever she presses it, it exits out of whatever you are watching. It was maddening. I wished there was a child lock feature or something.)

All in all, Maile gets a B+ on this trip – she had a few short meltdowns and refused to nap – but other than an exhausted Daddy, we made it through just fine.
