Weekend of Firsts, Part 2: Eat It

by Papa K on December 6, 2009

I don't know Mommy, this seems way less efficient then the bottle or your breast, but I'll play along if this is what you want...

At Maile’s 4 month check up, her doctor said we could start introducing “solid” foods sometime in the next month. We decided to wait until after the Thanksgiving travels and on Saturday Maile had her first non-milk meal!

Sort of.

Turns out that the first “solid” thing you introduce is rice cereal mixed with breast milk. I was expecting it to me be a bit more solid than it actually was – the initial mixture was 1 tablespoon of rice cereal and 4 tablespoons of milk.

Regardless, Maile couldn’t get enough of it. I’m not sure how much of the cereal actually made it into her stomach, but she sure had a lot of fun with the whole eating experience. Check out the video below (with appropriate musical accompaniment, of course 😉

For now we are going to be giving Maile one “solid” meal a day – which is a good thing, because it takes awhile and is definitely messier than her milk only feedings!

Weekend of First, Part 1: Shoes!

by Papa K on December 6, 2009

Following on the very exciting “rolling” milestone of last week, Maile embarked on a series of “firsts” this weekend. We started slowly – first up, Maile’s first pair of shoes!

These are pretty, but they sure do make my feet harder to eat!

(Dad note: Special thanks to Renee, Sage and Zeb for the adorable shoes all the way from China.)
