Apparently, Maile Girl and Mommy spent all afternoon doing this…

Best $2 Ever!*

by Papa K on November 14, 2011

Ahh, peace and quiet at 20,000 feet!

Ahh, peace and quiet at 20,000 feet!

Maile looks nice and peaceful in the picture above, right? Earphones! (or “iPhones” as she calls them – seriously the Apple branding with her is ridiculous…) Who would have thought? Maile loved wearing them on the flight home. And they are the old school over the ear ones, so we weren’t nervous about them being too loud (don’t worry Grandmas we tested and made sure they were very, very low).

* Yes, you need to buy earphones on airplanes now.

Happy 92nd to Great Grandpa Irv!

by Papa K on November 13, 2011

Maile’s Great Grandpa Irv turns 92 on Monday! We headed to Chicago this weekend to wish him a happy birthday in person. Papa Mike and Grandma Jill also came in from Boston to meet us. We had a wonderful weekend spending time with the family and especially spending time with “GG Irv” who has 90 years(!) on Maile Girl.

I think it’s safe to say that Great Grandpa Irv’s 92nd birthday is the first time he’s had “Happy Birthday” sung to him in Mandarin Chinese! And I’m sure he got a kick out of the fact that it was his great grand daughter who carried the tune…

One of the first things that Christine told me about her father was that he used to do her hair as a child. I’ve come to have an even deeper respect for that fact over the past few months as Maile’s hair has gotten long enough to put into pig tails.

Christine is in New York this week and Grandma Gail and Papa Cal have been helping out. I’ve been incredibly busy at work as well, so it has really been great having them spend time with Maile. And plus, Papa Cal is way better at doing Maile’s hair then I am!

Story Time with Maile Girl

by Papa K on November 8, 2011

Maile’s stories are getting much more elaborate. A story like this is a pretty regular occurrence these days. Piecing together what exactly happened that day at school has become a favorite past time for Mommy and Daddy…

My First Slow Dance

by Maile Girl on November 7, 2011

On Sunday, I decided to put on a fancy dressy. I picked it out myself. It’s actually two separate dressies that I combined into one. Daddy said I looked so beautiful that I should be dancing with someone. I thought he meant to Lady Gaga, but he actually said we should try “slow” dancing. I told him I didn’t know what that was (typically dancing with Daddy is pretty fast) – he said he’d show me.

Slow dancing was lots of fun. Daddy said I could only do it with him for now though. Fine by me 🙂

Maile and the Pumpkin Patch

by Papa K on November 6, 2011

We’ve been having so much fun with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Cal visiting that we are a week behind posting about some of our adventures. The Saturday before Halloween, we all piled into the car and headed out to Half Moon Bay to check out the pumpkin patches.

There was a petting zoo, but you'll notice no animals can be seen in this photo - that's because this was as close as Maile was willing to get...

While she wanted nothing to do with the real animals, Maile was a huge fan of these pink wooden ponies!

Sleeves

Daddy, I just wish these could be permanent...

What do you think? I kind of like it. I just wish they could be permanent. I’ll have to look into that one day…

(Dad note: This is my fault. Maile was looking through her Halloween bag and I decided to take a quick look at my email. Next thing I know she has tatted up “sleeves”. I really hope this is a phase she grows out of…)

These chopstick skills clearly come from Daddy’s side of the family 😉
