November 2012

This wasn’t our first visit to the dentist, but you might have thought that when Maile went a little bonkers when it was her turn to get her teeth cleaned. (Let’s just say everyone in the entire office was pretty clear on the fact that Maile Girl didn’t want her teeth cleaned.) Luckily, Daddy was able to talk her down and we were able to clean her teeth and snap this picture – nothing to see here 🙂

Daddy, I'm only doing this because you asked nicely ... and it's another excuse to get a picture of that ridiculous moustache on the blog!

A different type of beach visit…

by Papa K on November 28, 2012

When Grandma Jill suggested that we check out the beach, this wasn’t exactly what Maile had in mind (she wanted to wear her bathing suit) – but despite the chill, we had a blast picking out cool rocks and shells. By the time we were finished Maile Girl had lots of new material for art projects!

It looks like a beach, but it sure doesn't feel like a beach!

Getting Some Practice In…

by Maile Girl on November 25, 2012

This morning Daddy said I was going to get to meet a new friend. He wasn’t kidding when he said “new” – his name was Will and he was only 3 months old! That’s definitely baby territory. I was all excited to show my mommy and daddy what a good big sister and helper I could be! Will was so small and cute – and much lighter than I expected. I was able to hold him in my arms no problem – I told mommy and daddy that I could carry him downstairs, but they said that probably wasn’t the best idea. I was very gentle with him and gave him kisses on his forehead, he seemed to really like that. He wasn’t all that interested in my toys, but I really liked it when he gripped my finger tightly.

I had a lot of fun playing with Will and it only got me more excited to meet my little sister!

(Dad note: It was amazing watching Maile with Will – made our hearts melt with how gentle she was with him and how much love she showed him. We can’t wait for her to meet her new sister either!)

Hope everyone had a really nice Thanksgiving! It’s been awhile since we’ve taken some family pictures, so we took some last night. Plus, felt important to memorialize this ridiculous movember moustache.

Princess Maile and Her Castle Fort

by Papa K on November 21, 2012

We arrived in Boston last night and Grandma Jill had lots of fun new things for Maile Girl to play with. First up was a fort making kit that Christine had discovered: bildopolis. Basically its a fort in a box – cardboard boards with velcro squares to attach them however you want. We set to work building a castle.

When Grandma heard that we were making a castle, she went and got one of Auntie Elyssa’s old princess gowns. (Turns out the story on this dress is pretty cool: the dress was originally a nightgown that Maile’s Great Aunt Bess wore on her wedding night. Many years later, Aunt Bess took the night gown and turned it into a princess dress for Auntie Elyssa… and now Maile gets to play with it!)

We’ve been playing with the box fort since we’ve been here – in addition to the castle, we’ve built rocket ships, trains and all types of forts. Good times!

Maile’s First Crossword

by Maile Girl on November 19, 2012

On Sundays, Mommy is always writing letters in little square boxes. I asked her what she was doing and she told me it was a “crossword” – she said she’d show me how to do it. It’s fun! You need to figure out a word from a clue and then your Mommy shows you what the letters are and then you fill it in the boxes. Mommy said I did a really good job for my first time!

Getting down at Baby Loves Disco

by Papa K on November 18, 2012

On Saturday we hit the club. With Maile. At noon. Baby Loves Disco was in town. Baby Loves Disco is a traveling tour where they turn nightclubs into family friendly day club. Still have a DJ and plenty of dancing, but instead of adult beverages, there is a lot more juice and fruit.

Maile danced up a storm and we had a blast – highly recommended if they come to your neck of the woods…

Family Drawings

by Papa K on November 14, 2012

Maile has been big about drawing pictures of our family recently. Here are a couple from this week:

It was GG Irv's birthday today, so Maile made him a card showing portraits of GG Irv, GG Bea and Maile. GG Irv is wearing glasses, that is why his eyes are big.

Our family, Maile, Daddy and Mommy (with baby inside). Maile gave us some bling as well :) Can you tell which drawing Maile made and which drawings Daddy made? How scary is it that I have 30+ years on her and she's already almost caught up to me in drawing ability!
