Merry Go Round, Take 2

by Papa K on March 28, 2012

Long time readers might recall that last July we took Maile on a merry-go-round … and that first trip didn’t really go very well.

Apparently, the second times a charm for merry-go-rounds. On Monday, Grandma Gail and Papa Cal took Maile to Golden Gate Park Carousel and she absolutely rocked it!

Grandma Gail and Maile made Easter cards today using a potato(?!). They came out beautifully – here’s one she made for Christine and I.

Now I know where Christine gets her creative genes from! Thanks Grandma Gail!

Ice Cream with Papa

by Maile Girl on March 25, 2012

When I woke up on Friday morning, guess who was there to see me? Grandma Gail and Papa Cal! And you know what happens when Papa Cal is around? Yep, that’s right – ice cream for Maile Girl!

Mommy and I took Papa Cal up to one of our favorite ice cream spots. I think he liked it because he finished his whole cup and his was way bigger than mine!

B is for Broccoli

by Papa K on March 22, 2012

When Mommy dropped Maile off at school the other day, Maile showed her the new writing sheets she’s been working on. Mommy and Maile worked through it a bit – Mommy wrote out “Tomato” and Maile took on “Broccoli” (since broccoli is one of her favorite foods). See below for how she did…

Maile can't decide whether she wants to eat the broccoli or spell it!

What do you think - can we count that as Maile's first 'B'?

Coloring with Daddy

by Maile Girl on March 21, 2012

Daddy had to work late last night. I was sad about that. But tonight Daddy came home at the regular time! I put him right to work – we played hide and seek for awhile and then we colored. I told Daddy we should color on the same sheet of paper – luckily Daddy is a bit bigger than me, so he colored on the top and I did the bottom.

Daddy, you're squishing me!

Working late

by Papa K on March 20, 2012

I had to work late tonight. Chris IM’d me around 8 PM saying that Maile was refusing to go to bed and that she wanted me to read her a book. Chris decided to just ignore her, so Maile crawled up on the couch and promptly fell asleep. When I came home this is what I found:

A stubborn little girl waiting for her Daddy

Doesn’t look very comfortable. The red book is the one she wanted me to read. I picked her up and as I was carrying her back to her room, she woke up a bit, saw it was me, smiled and gave me a kiss. “I kiss you Daddy”… indeed you do, Maile Girl, and I apologize for working late! (But, honestly, cut your Mommy some slack!)

Adventure to Lombard Street

by Papa K on March 19, 2012

One of our new favorite weekend activities is to go explore the neighborhood by having Maile call all the shots. We just head out and see where she takes us.

On Sunday, we actually ended up at Lombard Streetarguably the crookedest street in the world. Given all the tourists it had actually been awhile since Christine and I had been down it either.

BTW – Maile is also 100% responsible for her outfit in this video…

Sunday New York Times

by Papa K on March 18, 2012

I like this series of photos Christine took today of Maile reading the New York Times. Maile Girl is lucky she is cute, but Mommy certainly doesn’t like it when Daddy tears through the newspaper ahead of her 😉

Apologize for the delay posting this. I know many of you rely on Maile’s bracket to enter into your own pools (especially after her 3rd place finish with her inaugural bracket two years ago.

Maile's 2012 March Madness Bracket

Maile's 2012 March Madness Bracket

One wrinkle this year was that I quickly realized that whatever team I said second was the team that Maile decided she wanted to pick. So if I said “Duke vs Lehigh” – she’d want “Lehigh” – and if I said “Lehigh vs. Duke” she’d want “Duke”. Given the way the bracket is laid out, needless to say she ended up with a lot of upsets!

Here’s how the picking went this year…

All in all, Maile had a rough first day – getting only 6 of 16 games right (but she called the VCU and Colorado upsets!). Her Final Four is still in tact – with Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State and UNC. She has Kentucky beating UNC in the final (she really likes teams that end in the “ee” sound.)
