Maile Girl making things happen on the potty!

Maile Girl making things happen on the potty!

Everyone told us that preschool was great for potty training because Maile would see some of the older kids using the potty and want to keep up. They couldn’t have been more correct – we’ve actually been amazed at how quickly it has happened. Maile is in her 4th week of school and has been somewhat consistently using the potty at school and at home for about a week and a half. She doesn’t make it every time, but she’s starting to get pretty good about telling us when it’s time, especially in the morning and before bed.

The con side of this is that Maile’s new go to move is to wake up at 5:30 AM, stand in front of the bathroom, and call out for Mommy to help her use the potty. We’re totally torn on this – on one hand, you want to encourage using the potty. On the other hand, well, it’s 5:30 in the morning!

Chris got up with Maile all week, so this morning I decided I’d help her out. I heard Maile calling out and got out of bed to help her. Of course, she didn’t want Daddy, she wanted Mommy – so we had a bit of a “meeting of the minds” for about 10-15 minutes. I finally convinced her to use the potty by promising her that after she did, she could go see Mommy (at the point I figured we were getting pretty close to Chris’ normal 6 AM wake up time).

As I was putting Maile’s diaper back on, I happened to glance at the clock and realized that it wasn’t 5:30 AM. It was 4:00 AM! Maile had gotten up to go to the bathroom at 3:30 AM and I just didn’t realize it. Doh. I felt awful, but I woke up Mommy (apologizing profusely) and she took Maile back to bed. Needless to say, we were all exhausted today!

(Dad note: We’re pulling out the big guns now to try to prevent this from happening – Chris found this alarm clock on line that indicates when it’s okay to get up. We’re going to give it a shot…)
