Dolly B and me making our way to the park...

Dolly B and me making our way to the park...

Daddy and I took advantage of the nice weather this weekend to take Dolly B to the park. Dolly B is my baby – my Great Grandma Bea gave her to me. For Christmas I got a stroller just like the one that Mommy and Daddy used to push me around in when I was a baby. (Okay, you’re right, they still push me in the stroller, but its just because its easier for them – they are old after all – I’m perfectly content walking or being carried… like a big girl.) In any event, as you can see from the video, I’m a pretty good mommy in training…

(Dad note #1: Needless to say it took awhile to get to the park.)

(Dad note #2: On viewing this video Chris said that I actually play games and push Maile just like she is doing in the video. Moral of the story: kids watch every move you make.)

iPad Skills Update

by Papa K on January 13, 2011

I continue to be fascinated by how quickly Maile is picking up technology, especially the iPhone and iPad. She can now pick up either device, slide it on, flip the screens until she finds her games, touch the game she wants and then play the game. And when she plays, she is now doing more than just touching random things. It’s not totally clear from the video below, but there is one game that has her drag and match shapes and she knows how to do that. Pretty much blows my mind.

The one thing that still gives her trouble (as evident from the video) is that she constantly presses the home button. Apparently Maile and her iPad-loving baby friends got together and gave Apple some feedback – rumor has it they are removing the home button from the next version!

(Dad note: the apps that Maile loves the most are from Duck Duck Moose – just download all of them if you have young kids, they are all fantastic.)

Singing & Dancing in the Tub

by Papa K on January 12, 2011

This one pretty much speaks for itself. One comment – the little shimmy move that Maile does at the beginning? That is her move to indicate she wants to listen to music and dance. She’ll throw it out there at any time of the day and keep doing it until we play some music. We love it … as long as we see it post 6 AM.

Maile Minute – 18 Months

by Papa K on January 11, 2011

18 months – wow! It’s been awhile since we did a Maile media count:

9,074 photos
828 videos
504 blog posts

I don’t even want to think about how many diapers. But many, many kisses and good times too.

See below for the continuation of our Maile Minute project (previous entries can be found here):

Paper Route

by Maile Girl on January 10, 2011

Daddy told me that he used to have a paper route when he was a kid, but he wasn’t so sure they would be around when I got older. So I decided to start early. I figured it’d help offset my milk expenses (I prefer organic and it costs a couple dollars more).

Good thing I get up early!

Bonus is I get a pretty good work out in first thing in the morning...

We taught Maile an important life lesson this weekend … how to howl. Yes, I said howl.

To close out the recap of our Christmas trip to Hawaii, we thought we’d cover one of our favorite traditions – the making of Christmas cookies. This year it was all hands on deck, Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Nao, Uncle Steve, Mommy, Daddy, Katie, Emily and Maile Girl all chipped in on the fun.

First, Mommy helped the girls pick out their cookie cutters...

Then came the best part – the decorating! Maile Girl was an ace with the sprinkles…

Fun at Kamalani Park

by Maile Girl on January 5, 2011

With one of our last remaining days on Kauai, Mommy and Daddy took me to Kamalani Park. It’s this great playground right next to the beach. I went there in June, but I was too little to really do much. This time I had the run of the place.

First, for the very first time, and exclusively captured on this blog, I got to swing ON THE BIG GIRL SWING!

Check me out - on the big girl swing, all by myself!

This. Is. Awesome.

This. Is. Awesome.

Then Daddy and I tried to go down the slide. I say “tried” because, well, we sort of got stuck. I blame Daddy.

Umm, Daddy, why aren't we moving? Shouldn't we be going a bit faster on this slide?

Can anyone see us? So embarrassing...

We ran around a bunch and then Mommy and Daddy put me back in the little girl, baby swing. I was bored. (Dad note: and by “bored” Maile Girl means “exhausted”…)

by Papa K on January 4, 2011

I’ve been there every step of the way, but these year-to-year comparison pictures still blow me away every time…

Should we interpret this as a sign that Maile is ready to start potty training???

Oh look, a potty! I'm a big girl, I know what to do with this...

Wow, I have to admit, it is way harder to line things up then I anticipated...
