We went to a party tonight to welcome Alex and Lisa B. back to San Francisco. They are friends of mommy and daddy’s. Alex actually has a blog too and he likes to make fun of my daddy when I hack into his Twitter account. Lisa is a pediatrician and has been an absolute life saver – my mommy and daddy have called her a few times with questions and she has been super helpful!
My friend, Wills, was at the party too. We had a great time playing together. He did start to get a little fresh though, much to the delight of everyone at the party:
To be honest, I think I was more scared by all the loud noises than anything Wills was doing. Plus I had my daddy there and he told Wills a few things and after that he was a perfect gentleman:
Most of you probably haven’t noticed, but I actually wear boys clothes a lot. Mommy says the clothes are French, so that makes it okay. Apparently, mom and dad got a bunch of hand-me-downs from a boy named Harold. Up until Monday, I didn’t know who this Harold character was, but his clothes sure are soft and comfortable.
I finally got to meet Harold on Monday night. We went over to his house for his daddy’s birthday. Harold is an older man, he already turned two years old(!) I’m still working on hitting two months, so anything with years is quite impressive. Harold was a great host – he showed me his books, ran around a whole lot, and gave me a kiss.
Apparently, my daddy and Harold’s daddy have planned a date for us in 2030. (Don’t tell my dad, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait that long!)
I fear this might be the beginning of the end for me. Maile is learning how to smile.
NOTE: This was taken pre-shot. I’m sure it will not shock you to learn that there was no smiling during the shot. More of a bright-red-hold-your-breath-oh-my-god-is-she-ever-going-to-breathe-again type thing. Kind of like this:
Today was Maile’s one month birthday! In some respects its hard to believe that a whole month has passed – and, of course, just as hard to remember back to when it was just the two of us. (Bonus of Maile’s first birthday is that two new friends were born today – not quite birthday buddies, but 11 is a very cool number to share!)
By our count, in the last month we’ve changed ~400 diapers. Maile’s fed ~300 times for a total of ~75 hours (approximately 10 times and 2.5 hours per day) – thanks Mommy! We’ve taken 850 pictures and videos – basically every waking moment (and some sleeping ones too…)
We’ll go to the doctor for the official tally tomorrow, but Maile has gained ~ 2 lbs (from her birth weight) and grown 1-2 inches. She’s also stretched out her sleeping from 2.5 to 4-4.5 hours at night (hallelujah!).
Beyond just the numbers, Maile has had an amazing first month. Chris and I definitely have to thank every one near and far for their notes, calls, emails, visits, and gifts. Proper thank yous will follow soon, but it really has been amazing to share this journey with everyone. Special thank yous to our families – your visits, advice and love have been incredible. And also to our San Francisco crew – it’s been so much fun introducing you all to Maile and starting this next part of our journey alongside good friends. It really is exciting that this little girl can bring so much joy to everyone!
Are you as confused as I am? All of a sudden this guy shows up on Saturday and he and my dad start taking photos with me like they just adopted me.
Just kidding. Turns out “this guy” is my Uncle Ryan – he was my dad’s best man in his wedding. They’ve known each other for a very long time. Now, I’ve gotten lots of presents so far (and I am very thankful for all of them) – but check out what Uncle Ryan got me:
Thanks Uncle Ryan. What do I do with this?
(Actually, that’s not what Uncle Ryan really brought me. He and Auntie Diana found this out of print children’s book called “Maile and the Marvelous One” by Bernadette Gomes. How cool is that?)
I'm Famous!
Luckily, Uncle Ryan also brought a lady with him (apparently they were in San Francisco to kick off their honeymoon by visiting me!) – Auntie Diana and I quickly made fast friends…
Meeting Auntie Diana
We had a really fun day – I showed them around San Francisco, Uncle Ryan danced with me and we even got to see that Ferris boy again over brunch.
Come back again soon ... and bring some more of that Jameson's!
A little blurry this week – ah well! Maile was fussier than normal this weekend so I guess the blurriness equates to us all being a bit tired. More pictures to come from Maile’s week 4 adventures in the coming days – for now we are hitting the sack early so we can prepare for the week ahead.
But I’ll leave you with what might be my favorite picture yet of Maile & Mommy…
I’ve written previously about techniques we’ve tried to quiet Maile down. I’ve been working on a new one lately, that I think holds some promise. We’re still in the early stages of perfecting it – but should it prove to consistently work, I may need to put out my own DVD and start making boo koo bucks!
Tonight I got to accompany my mommy for the So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) finale viewing! I’ve been looking forward to this ladies’ night all week. I have lots of really cute clothes, but I was having trouble deciding what to wear. Luckily, my dad made a phone call and had a fashion designer(!) come over – she brought me the cutest dress from the Baby Gap (thanks Jenny!)
At first I wasn’t super excited about the dress, but once I realized how adorable I looked, I calmed right down.
The best part of the party was that I got to see my friends Wills and Allison again. We’re all still a little shy around each other, but I can tell that these events are going to get more and more fun as time goes on!
